It’s the Happy Meal’s 30th year in Sweden, and McDonald’s is giving customers a tech-friendly treat.
The special edition Happy Meal line, in which the meal boxes can be refolded and transformed into virtual reality goggles to use with smartphones, will be sold at 14 restaurants for approximately $4.10 a pop during the weekends of March 5 and March 12.
According to Adweek, some 3,500 of these Happy Goggle’s, as McDonald’s calls them, will be available.
On March 4, the company will also release an educational virtual reality game called Slope Stars, which Sweden’s National Ski Team endorsed. It can be played while wearing the goggles for a more immersive experience or with a smartphone alone.
The release is just in time for Sportlov, a Swedish holiday period during which many families go skiing, Adweek reports.
This special edition line of Happy Meals is a trial run for McDonald’s. The company says it hopes to release the goggles in more countries in the future.
