Video: Jupiter hit by possible asteroid or comet

Jupiter just received an unexpected visitor.

In a video recently posted on YouTube, amateur astronomer Gerrit Kernbauer captured what appears to be an asteroid, or a comet, colliding with the planet.

In the video’s description, Kernbauer says that he was “observing and filming” the planet on March 17 but did not process the film earlier because “seeing was not the best.” Ten days later, Kernbauer reviewed his footage and noticed the brief flash of light on the right side of the planet. Kernbauer uploaded his findings to a German forum.
